What iSCSI extension value must be considered if multiple VSG instances are installed on the same HW?

Question

What iSCSI extension value must be considered if multiple VSG instances are installed on the same HW?

Answer

You must verify that each instance has a unique extension number to use a unique iqn when connecting to the target.

This can be checked from the main tab on the VSG in the Configuration Client.

Therefore, when you have several instances on the same server, it would be good to check that each instance has a unique “initiator extension”. It is important not to have the same number for multiple instances (such as extension 1 for two instances)

Each of the VSG instances needs to have initiator extension values ranging from 1 to 7 depending on how many instances they have running on each machine, e.g.:

  • VSG 1 server, IP 172.x.x.11 -> values from 1 to 7 for the different instances
  • VSG 2 server, IP 172.x.x.12 -> values from 1 to 7 for the different instances

This is in the General -> Unit access settings of the VSG.
