‘The iSCSI system cannot be accessed’ message appears in Configuration Client after adding iSCSI units

System overview:

BVMS version: 12.3

Devices: 2 x DIVAR IP all-in-one 7000 2U

Server: HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10

Possible causes and solution(s)

Symptoms

After successfully adding two iSCSI units, the following error appears in Configuration Client:

“The iSCSI system cannot be accessed

Please check your configuration password and retry”

In addition to the error message, the system also presents the following symptoms:

  • No Virtual Disks are visible in Server Manager

  • The ping from BVMS server (HPE) to one of the iSCSI units does not work

Solution

First, take into consideration that DIVAR IP needs to have an active network link during installation. Make sure that the network switch you are connecting to is powered on.

The default IP address must not be occupied by any other device in the network. Make sure that the default IP addresses of existing DIVAR IP systems in the network are changed before adding another DIVAR IP.

Moreover, please check if a CHAP password was set.

How to verify if a CHAP password was set: Open Configuration Client > Hardware > Protect iSCSI storages with CHAP password.

If a chap password was set, check the below article:

The global CHAP password has to be set manually before adding the iSCSI devices to BVMS. If this step is missing, the DIVAR IP/ NetApp (DSA) cannot be added to a BVMS system where the global CHAP password is activated already.

Also, please check if the RAID configuration still exists or not. Depending on the result, follow the appropriate solution:

  1. If the RAID still exists, then perform a recovery of the units (initial factory setup) and reconfigure the iSCSI devices.

Recovery steps are detailed on pages 34–35 in the unit’s Installation Manual.

  2. If the RAID does not exist, then create a new RAID5 configuration and factory reset the units.

Instructions for creating RAID5 can be found in the article: How to create RAID 5 for DIVAR IP All-in-one 7000 GEN3?
