Question
Can I upgrade the Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) on a DIP appliance?
Answer
It is strongly not recommended to upgrade the Microsoft Windows OS version on a DIP appliance.
These systems are specifically designed, configured, and tested with a particular OS version. Changing the operating system may lead to unexpected issues and unstable performance.
The recommended approach is to:
-
Keep the existing operating system up to date using official Microsoft updates
-
Ensure regular patching and security updates are applied
However, the original OS version installed on the appliance should not be replaced or upgraded to a different version.
Even if is decided upgrading to a different OS version on your own risk, there are multiple potential problems to be expected:
-
As the platform was only tested with the original OS versions, correct functionality cannot be ensured anymore and the compatibility with installed applications may be affected.
-
As per defined Bill-of-Material of the product, service organization will assume that the original OS should be used and will not support the updated systems.
-
Recovery media including Bosch applications are only available for the original OS version located on recovery partition included in Appliances OS.
For these reasons we strongly advise you to not change the OS on these systems to a newer version.
If a newer operating system version is necessary, the recommended approach is to consider deploying a newer appliance that supports the desired OS version.
