Can cameras record simultaneously on two different versions of BVMS using VSG (dual recording)?

Question

Can cameras record simultaneously on two different versions of BVMS using VSG (dual recording)?

Answer

Dual recording is not supported when using VSG.

In a setup where cameras are recorded by two BVMS systems in parallel, each with its own recording device, VRM, and VSG instance, signal loss may occur on the system that records via VSG. Although the cameras may remain reachable (for example, they still respond to ping and appear operational), recording interruptions and loss of video signal can occur on the VSG-based recording path while the primary recording device continues to record normally.

This behavior indicates that VSG does not support dual recording. This limitation is documented in the BVMS System Design Guide, which outlines supported architectures and recording scenarios. When dual recording is required, alternative system designs should be considered.

As a general recommendation, ensure that system components such as VRM versions are aligned across different generations of recording devices, even when VSG is not used, and review supported design options before implementing parallel recording setups. As example, for a case with 2 DIP 7000 gen3 and 4 units: it might be recommended to match the VRM version of your both DIP units even while not using VSG and try do dual record.
