Can Windows OS and SQL Server updates be applied after upgrading BVMS?
Question
Can Windows OS and SQL Server updates be applied after upgrading BVMS?
Answer
As a general rule - applicable to all software, not only to BVMS - any software upgrade should be performed on an operating system that is fully updated.
Windows OS & SQL Server updates may be applied after upgrading BVMS, but only if they correspond to the versions listed in the BVMS release notes. These versions have been tested and validated for compatibility with BVMS.
If Windows OS and SQL Server updates are required after BVMS has been upgraded, the following precautions should be taken before applying any updates:
on Windows Server: perform a Server Backup (Windows Server Backup must be configured in advance)
on other Windows operating systems: create a System Restore Point (e.g. Windows 10/11 Pro)
On DIVAR IP systems, it is recommended to install security updates instead of driver updates
Additional recommendation:
Before upgrading BVMS, it is important to carefully review the release notes to check for any specific recommendations or restrictions, as for example in the BVMS 13.1 release notes, include a reference regarding Windows Updates:
“Therefore, it is strongly recommended to apply all the Windows Updates before installing BVMS 12.2 on the client machine.”
Upgrading to non-supported or untested Windows OS or SQL Server versions it is not recommended as it may cause compatibility issues or unexpected behavior.
