Possible causes and solution(s)
When configuring a Video Wall in a BVMS environment, some cameras may display a black screen or a Bosch logo with a red X icon instead of the live video stream. However, those same cameras may still work correctly in the Operator Client.
Scenario:
The behavior was observed in the following environment configuration:
-
2 monitors
-
HP Z4 Workstation
-
Workstation added in Configuration Client as a “Decoder” and used as a Monitor Wall
-
BVMS version 13.0
-
Video Wall version 10.00.1.64
-
Secure communication enabled for cameras and VRM connections
Symptoms
-
Certain cameras do not display video on the Video Wall
-
Cameras appear correctly in Operator Client
-
A Bosch logo with a red X is shown instead of the stream
-
Older camera models work normally, while newer models fail
Causes
In many cases, the problem is related to inconsistent stream or decoder configuration between:
-
BVMS Monitor Wall settings
-
Decoder settings
-
Camera stream capabilities
-
Secure communication configuration
When cameras work correctly in Operator Client but fail on the Video Wall, the issue is often related to decoder or Monitor Wall configuration rather than the camera hardware itself.
Reviewing stream compatibility, secure communication settings, and decoder configuration consistency can help restore normal video display for newer camera platforms.
Solution
The following steps can help mitigate the issue:
-
Ensure that the decoder/workstation uses stream settings compatible with the camera’s output format
-
Verify that secure communication settings are consistently supported across all devices in the video chain
-
Confirm that stream profiles used by newer camera platforms are supported by the decoding environment
-
Align camera stream configuration and decoder expectations to avoid mismatches in encoding, resolution, or security handling
A similar principle is described in the following knowledge base article, which addresses stream display issues caused by configuration mismatches between cameras and decoding devices:
Even though the article references a Video Decoder scenario, the same principles can apply to Video Wall environments. Please try to configure your system as described in above-mentioned article.
Monitor Wall is based on VJD functionality at its core. In practice, the same scenarios must be considered for Monitor Wall.
This is similar to the case of VJD + Bosch cameras + BVMS integration.
The Monitor Wall application uses a standalone PC to decode video streams.
Additional Troubleshooting Steps
If only one or a few cameras remain affected after applying the configuration changes, try the following:
-
Export and upload a working configuration from another similar camera
-
Perform a factory default reset on the affected camera
-
Reconfigure the device and test again
-
Verify:
-
Firmware version
-
Camera platform generation
-
Device compatibility with the Video Wall environment
-
